After defeating the Gigantes de Carolina in the 2022-23 LBPRC championship, the Indios de Mayagüez looked promising heading into last year’s campaign.
However, the team went 18-22 and was on the outside looking in on the playoffs. The season differed from the one Indios de Mayagüez fans expected after a trip to the Caribbean Series in Venezuela in 2023.

2023-24 Record – 18-22
2023-24 Playoff Results – Did not qualify
Manager Wilfredo Cordero, born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, played 14 years in Major League Baseball for six organizations from 1992-2005, primarily with the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals. He hit a career-high 18 home runs with the Boston Red Sox in 1997.
Cordero replaces former Indios de Mayagüez manager Mako Oliveras, who helped guide them to the league championship in 2022-23. Oliveras, a former minor-league player for the Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates, began his managerial career in 1984 in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol with the Truchas de Toluca.

Championship History
The Indios de Mayagüez have won 19 LBPRC league championships, winning their first in 1949. Before taking the title during the 2022-23 season, the organization had not won the championship since 2014.
The Indios de Mayagüez’s last Caribbean Series title was in 1992 when manager Pat Kelly led them. Kelly is currently the manager of the Louisville Bats, the Cincinnati Reds’ Triple-A affiliate.
The Indios de Mayagüez will look to add a 20th LBPRC league championship in franchise history at the end of the 2024-25 season and an opportunity to represent Puerto Rico in the 2025 Caribbean Series in Mexicali, Mexico.
