The 2024 MLB All-Star weekend kicked off with the futures game, which featured the MLB’s top minor league prospects. The National League defeated the American League 6-1. This event featured international players who made major impacts on the field and at the plate.

For the American League, Emiliano Teodo, originally from Barahona, Dominican Republic, started the game pitching. Teodo plays for the Texas Rangers’ double-A affiliate, the Frisco RoughRiders. Teodo had a terrific outing, pitching two shutout innings and giving up zero hits. Luis Morales from Antilla, Cuba, and Winston Santos from Payite, Dominican Republic, showcased their talents as relief pitchers for the American League. Both pitchers did not give up a run, and Morales led the American League pitchers in strikeouts with two.

However, the American League struggled behind the plate and only scored one run during the seven-inning game.

The National League was far more successful at the plate, putting up six runs in seven innings. Jeral Perez, who hails from La Romana, Dominican Republic, had a solid outing at the plate for the National League Future Stars team, getting one hit and scoring once. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic’s Deyvison De Los Santos, also had an RBI for the National League team.

All these players allowed to play in the 2024 All-Star Future Game have had terrific seasons in the minor leagues and are seen as up-and-coming prospects. This game was stacked with international talent, and these foreign players shined under the bright lights. As the game continues to grow, this game is a promising sign that the MLB is becoming increasingly international.
