The 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Finalists were announced on Tuesday, October 15 for the 2024 Major League Baseball regular season in the American League and National League, honoring the best individual fielding performances at all nine positions.
The Rawlings Gold Glove Award began in 1957.
The winners of the 2024 Gold Glove Award will be announced on November 3, 2024, at 8:30 p.m. ET with a one-hour, special-edition “Baseball Tonight” broadcast on ESPN.
The 2024 RGGA finalists include seven former Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners in the American League and 10 former winners in the National League.
Last year in the National League, Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker, Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner, Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes, Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson, Chicago Cubs left fielder Ian Happ, Colorado Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle, San Diego Padres right fielder Fernando Tatís Jr., Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno, Philadelphia Philies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler, and San Diego Padres utility player Ha-seong Kim won the 2023 RGGA.
In the American League, Texas Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez, Oakland Athletics third baseman Matt Chapman, New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe, Cleveland Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan, former Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier, Texas Rangers right fielder Adolis Garcia, Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim, Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jose Berrios, and Houston Astros utility player Mauricio Dubon won last years RGGA.
Four teams have won the first-four years of the RGGA with the Cleveland Indians in 2020, the Houston Astros in 2021, the New York Yankees in 2022, and the Toronto Blue Jays in 2023 for the AL.
In the NL, the Chicago Cubs won in 2020, the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021-22, and the Milwaukee Brewers in 2023 for the first-four years of the RGGA.
The other players that have won the RGGA for utility players in 2022 were Brendan Donovan of the St. Louis Cardinals and D.J. LeMahieu of the New York Yankees.
According to Rawlings website, “The award determines the winners of the 18 defensive position Awards, each team’s manager and up to six coaches on his staff vote from a pool of qualified players in their League and cannot vote for players from their own team. In 2013, Rawlings added the SABR Defensive Index™ (SDI) to the Rawlings Gold Glove Award selection process, which comprises approximately 25 percent of the overall selection total, with the managers’ and coaches’ votes continuing to carry the majority”.
