According to Samurai Japan’s official website, the pools for the 2025 Asian Baseball Championship have been confirmed. Group A will feature Japan, China, the Philippines, and Pakistan. Group B includes Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Palestine. The tournament, for the first time ever, will be hosted in Pingtan, China, from September 22–29.
Japan, the tournament’s most dominant force, will once again send top players from its independent leagues. With a record 20 gold medals overall and 10 titles in the last 15 editions, Japan has medaled in every Asian Championship—a feat unmatched by any other nation.
Underdogs Hong Kong, Palestine, Pakistan, and the Philippines are aiming for a breakthrough. A team outside the traditional powerhouses—Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and China—has not cracked the top four since Australia did so in 1975. The Philippines last won a medal in 1971.
Palestine enters the tournament with momentum, having claimed their first-ever international title at the 2025 West Asia Cup in Iran, defeating regional powerhouse Pakistan. It was a landmark win for the emerging program, and they now look to carry that success onto the continental stage.
South Korea, likely to field a roster full of rising KBO stars, has struggled to replicate past success in this tournament. They have just one gold medal and two silvers in the 21st century. However, the team is building toward a brighter future, with a long-term focus on upcoming World Baseball Classic events and the 2028 Olympics.
Host nation China, returning to the competition after missing the 2023 edition, will be close to full strength. The team is seeking redemption following a disappointing performance at the WBC Qualifiers in Tucson earlier this year. With eyes set on hosting the Premier12 Qualifiers next year, this tournament is a crucial step in their preparation.
Taiwan has been on an impressive run in recent years, securing seven silver and two gold medals since 2000. They are expected to field a strong roster again as they look to extend one of the most successful periods in Taiwanese baseball history.
The 2025 Asian Baseball Championship begins September 22, with several teams eyeing a breakthrough and aiming to challenge the region’s traditional baseball powers.
