Mexico and the Dominican Republic will play at Estadio Nido de los Aguilas tonight to determine Mexicali’s 2025 Caribbean Series champion.
Here is a look at both teams heading into the matchup.
Dominican Republic Looks for 23rd Title After Thrilling Semifinal Win
The Dominican Republic heads into the championship coming off a thrilling semifinal win over Venezuela on Wednesday.
They won 5-4 in 11 innings, and Sócrates Brito’s RBI double sealed the win.
Before that game, the D.R. had a scary collapse against Puerto Rico in round-robin play. They blew a 7-4 lead and lost.
The Dominican Republic offense has looked solid over the past two games, with a combined 22 hits. An extra-inning win also makes this team confident about facing an unbeaten Mexico team.
If the Dominican Republic wins, it will be the country’s 23rd Caribbean Series title. It would also be the fourth time they have won it in six years.
Mexico Looks to Win the Tournament with an Undefeated Record
Mexico heads into the championship game against the Dominican Republic with an undefeated record up until now.
They are coming off a 3-1 win over Puerto Rico in the semifinal after another big-time pitching performance.
Mexico has given up three runs in its past three games, including a shutout of the Dominican Republic on Feb. 2.
If Mexico wins, it will be its first Caribbean Series title since 2016. It will also be the first time a host country has won the event since Panama did it in 2019.
Tonight’s Caribbean Series championship will be at 10 p.m. E.T. and televised on MLB Network.
