With the 2025 Curacao Professional Baseball League (CPB) season starting on Jan. 16, here is a preview of the Willemstad Cannons.
The Cannons are led by manager Carlos Pineda. He has been a bench coach for some of Curacao’s national teams.
Andrelton Simmons is the big-time name to know on this Willemstad team. He had an illustrious MLB career with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels, winning four gold gloves in 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2018.
Another major leaguer on the team is Jurickson Profar. He currently plays for the San Diego Padres and had a solid 2024 season as he was named an all-star for the first time in his career.
It is also important to note that the Cannons received outfielder Ericson Leonora in a trade in exchange for the utility player they drafted, Swindly Lint. Leonora has spent some time playing Italy since 2019.
Ben Meyer is a name to take note of in the Willemstad pitching staff. He pitched 19 innings for the Miami Marlins in 2018.
Jesus Querales is also on the pitching staff. He has spent the past three years playing for the Philadelphia Phillies’ rookie affiliate teams.
The Cannons will play a game on the first and last day of the CPB regular season.
Here is their schedule below –
Jan. 16 – Curacao Suns v. Willemstad Cannons
Jan. 18 – Willemstad Cannons v. Curacao Goats
Both games are scheduled for 8 p.m. E.T. and will be played at Tio Daou Ballpark in Willemstad.
A finish among either first or second place for the Cannons puts them in the CPB Championship game on Jan. 19. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m. E.T.
