The 2025 NCAA Tournament continues with 16 teams playing in super regionals that will set the College World Series field of teams. Here is a look at the Louisville, Durham, Los Angeles, and Corvallis super regionals.
Louisville Super Regional: Miami Hurricanes vs. Louisville Cardinals – Both Louisville and Miami defeated regional hosts on their way to an ACC-on-ACC matchup in the super regional round at Jim Patterson Stadium.
The two teams have not played against each other this season despite being in the same conference.
Outside of a 17-6 loss Miami suffered during the Hattiesburg regional, the pitching from both teams has been good so far in the NCAA Tournament.
Louisville gave up no more than three runs in each game of the Nashville regional and shut out Wright State to advance to the super regional.
In that final game, the Cardinals’ pitchers, Ethan Eberle and Wyatt Danilowicz, allowed just two hits while striking 15 hitters in the Raiders’ lineup.
Miami had some impressive pitching performances last weekend as well. However, nothing topped Griffin Hugus’ complete game he threw against the Columbia Lions. He held the Ivy League champions to just one run all game and had nine strikeouts.
Alfred picks – Louisville. The pitching played a crucial role in both Louisville and Miami getting this far in the NCAA Tournament. The difference maker here is that Louisville will be playing at home, where they have a 27-7 record this season. On top of that, the Cardinals have a top five offense in the ACC while Miami’s offense ranks 12th in the conference.
Leif Skodnick picks – Miami. In Griffin Hugus, the Hurricanes have a potential shutdown starter who showed his talent is matching his potential with a complete game win against Columbia in Hattiesburg. AJ Ciscar also had a quality start in the regional, going seven innings and three runs on six hits and a walk in a 5-3 win against Alabama. Baseball generally favors pitching, and Miami has been getting pitching.
Louisville Super Regional Schedule
Friday, June 6 – 3 p.m. EDT – ESPN 2
Saturday, June 7 – 11 a.m. EDT – ESPN
Durham Super Regional: Murray State Racers vs. Duke Blue Devils – The “Cinderella” Murray State Racers are headed to Durham, N.C., as they will take on the Duke Blue Devils for a chance at the College World Series.
This is currently the furthest Murray State has gotten in the tournament in their program’s history.
The Racers won the Oxford Regional with great offense. They averaged 10.5 runs per game in matchups against Ole Miss and Georgia Tech.
As for Duke, solid pitching was a big story. In the final two games of the Athens regional, the Blue Devils’ pitching staff allowed five runs and struck out 21 batters combined in games against Georgia and Oklahoma State.
Both Duke and Murray State have seen minimal action at the College World Series. The Racers have never been, and Duke has not been since 1961. A win in this matchup would go a long way for either program.
Alfred Picks – Duke. Murray State’s offense has been great against some good competition. However, it is hard to see it continuing against a team like Duke, which pitched two brilliant games to cap off their regional championship.
Leif Picks – Murray State. Coming off the win at the Oxford regional, the Racers are riding high in the saddle. They’ll have to get runs on the board early, as Blue Devils’ reliever Reid Easterly has been lights out to pull it off, but Murray State does have five batters hitting over .300 with and four players with at least 50 RBIs. It’ll take three, but Murray State will go to Omaha for the first time in 2025.
Durham Super Regional Schedule
Saturday, June 7 – 1 p.m. EDT
Sunday, June 8 – noon EDT
Los Angeles Super Regional: UTSA Roadrunners vs. UCLA Bruins
The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners toppled the Texas Longhorns to win the Austin Regional. This season, head coach Pat Hallmark’s team is 5-2 against power conference opponents. This includes three wins over Texas (twice in the NCAA Tournament) along with wins over Kansas State in the NCAA Tournament and Texas A&M.
As for UCLA, they won their own hosted regional in Los Angeles. The Bruins made a statement early with 31 runs in the first two games against Fresno State and Arizona State. The following win over UC Irvine led to a sweep of the Los Angeles regional.
It is the first super regional for UCLA since 2019, and they are looking to go to the College World Series for the first time since 2013, when they won their only national championship.
Alfred picks – UTSA. UTSA has proven this season that it can beat some big-time teams. This is not an “unpredictable Cinderella run” they are having as they defeated Texas and Texas A&M during the regular season. On top of that, much like UCLA, the Roadrunners swept their games in the Austin regional. Hallmark and his team have proven they can get it done in Los Angeles.
Leif picks – UTSA. The Roadrunners have made major conference opponents look like Wile E. Coyote all year, and most recently dropped an anvil on the Longhorns, their in-state big brother. They’re hot. Pick against them at your own risk.
Los Angeles Super Regional Schedule
Saturday, June 7 – 7 p.m. EDT
Sunday, June 8 – 3 p.m. EDT
Corvallis Super Regional: Florida State Seminoles v. Oregon State Beavers
After cruising to a regional championship, Florida State will travel 2,800 miles to Corvallis to take on the Oregon State Beavers in a super regional matchup.
The Beavers were upset by St. Mary’s in their first game of the tournament. They clawed their way back from elimination to win their regional for a shot at the College World Series.
The pitching matchups shape up for some great duels in a best two-out-of-three series. Florida State will likely begin the first two games throwing Joey Volini and Jamie Arnold. Meanwhile, Oregon State will likely go to Ethan Kleinschmidt and Dax Whitney for the first two games.
Both squads have team ERAs under 5.00 this season and rank in the top 40 in all of college baseball.
This national seed versus national seed matchup will be one to watch for the big pitching names on both sides.
Alfred picks – Florida State. With the dominant starting pitching that will be thrown out there. This super regional may come down to which offense gets going early and often. The advantage there leans to Florida State, which has a team batting average of .311, which is 19th in the country, while Oregon State has a team batting average of .292, which ranks outside of the top 50.
Leif picks – Florida State. Myles Bailey seems to improve every game and is becoming more aggressive at the plate, and Florida State has the most valuable commodity in college baseball: pitching depth.
