2025 Second Round Pick Angel Cervantes to Play for UCLA in 2026

This week, Angel Cervantes announced that he will attend UCLA and play for the Bruins for the 2026 college baseball season.  

Cervantes was the 50th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft as he was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates. His slot value was estimated at $1.93 million.  

The pitching prospect is from California and played for Warren High School. According to Perfect Game, he is a top 50 player in the 2025 high school class and a top five right-handed pitcher. Cervantes is also ranked as a top 15 player from the state of California. 

For UCLA, this is a huge recruit they get to hold on to for next season. According to Perfect Game, the Bruins have the 30th ranked high school class.  

Cervantes is the headlining player of the class that features another top 100 recruit, Zach Strickland 

He is joining a team that had solid pitching in 2025. UCLA ranked third in the Big Ten in team ERA (4.53). The only teams that consistently pitched better were the Iowa Hawkeyes and Oregon Ducks.  

UCLA Bruins 2025 Season Results 

In 2025, UCLA made the College World Series for the first time since 2013, when they won the national championship. It was the sixth College World Series appearance in program history.  

After a losing season in 2024, head coach John Savage’s team bounced back to finish with a 48-18 overall record in 2025. In their first season in the Big Ten, they had a 22-8 conference record.  

The Bruins won a share of the Big Ten regular season title along with Oregon. UCLA also finished as Big Ten Tournament runners-up.
