ARLINGTON, Texas- On Saturday, the Shriners Children’s College Showdown had its second set of three games. Here are some takeaways from each of the three games that were played.
Game One: Clemson Tigers 16, Arizona Wildcats 5
- Clemson had explosive first and ninth innings with seven runs and then eight runs respectively
- Eight different Clemson hitters finished with RBIs
- Clemson starting pitcher Ethan Darden with a great season debut
- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 0 ER, 6 K
- Despite efforts to come back, which included a three-run home run by top ten MLB draft prospect Brendan Summerhill, Arizona could not overcome the big first and ninth innings Clemson had
Game Two: Oklahoma State Cowboys 12, Louisville Cardinals 3
- Oklahoma State fell into a 3-0 deficit, but a comeback was quickly in the works as first baseman Colin Brueggemann hit a grand slam to take the lead
- Hawaii transfer Harrison Bodendorf had a resilient debut for the Cowboys
- Despite allowing 3 runs, he had 6 strikeouts in five innings
- Louisville was limited to just one hit from the fifth inning until the end of the game
- The Cowboys have hit five home runs in their first two games
Game Three: Texas Longhorns 10, Ole Miss Rebels 0 (run-rule)
- Both starting pitchers started hot, but Texas cracked Riley Maddox first, putting up five runs before he exited the game
- Luke Harrison had a great start for Texas (6 1/3 IP, 6 K, 1 BB, 0 ER)
- Max Belyeu had a phenomenal offensive night (2-4, HR, 2B, 2 R)
- Ole Miss got run-ruled and struggled to hit all night (just two hits total as a team)
