The 2026 NCAA Tournament begins on Friday, May 29. Here is World Baseball Network’s preview of the 2026 Gainesville regional.
Gainesville Regional – Condron Family Ballpark
No. 1 – Florida Gators (39-19, 18-12 SEC) – Number Eight National Seed
The Florida Gators enter the NCAA Tournament after a solid run in the 2026 SEC Tournament. Despite a loss in the semifinals to Georgia, the Gators rattled off dominant wins against Vanderbilt and Alabama, beating them by a combined score of 21-6. Florida enters the NCAA Tournament winners in 10 of their last 12 games.
Offensively, Blake Cyr has been a huge standout for the Gators in 2026. He has a .338 batting average with 13 home runs and 56 RBIs. Florida’s home run leader in 2026 has been Brendan Lawson, who has 16 long balls. Lawson is one of the top collegiate prospects to watch out for in the 2027 MLB Draft.
The Gators’ pitching staff is headlined by possibly the best “one-two” punch in the country. Liam Peterson and Aidan King have put on a show in 2026. The two starting pitchers have sub-4.00 ERAs and 196 combined strikeouts. King brought home the 2026 SEC Pitcher of the Year award.
Florida is just two years removed from making a College World Series appearance. That season, Florida had to navigate the NCAA Tournament by going on the road. This time around, the Gators will have home-field advantage.
No. 2 – Miami Hurricanes (38-18, 16-14 ACC)
The Miami Hurricanes are back in the NCAA Tournament after being a game away from going to the College World Series last season. This leaves head coach JD Arteaga’s squad hungry for another deep run in college baseball’s postseason.
Miami is heading into a regional that is hosted by a very familiar opponent. The Gators and Hurricanes played in a weekend series back in February this season. The third game of the series was cancelled after Florida defeated Miami in the first two matchups at Alex Rodriguez Park.
In the absence of star power hitter Daniel Cuvet, Derek Williams has stepped up in a huge way for the Hurricanes. In 2026, Williams has a .376 batting average with 15 doubles, 15 home runs, and 66 RBIs.
Rob Evans has been a formidable starter on the mound for Miami. In 82 2/3 innings of work, he has a 3.16 ERA and 94 strikeouts. On top of that, opposing teams are not hitting on Evans. He has allowed an opposing batting average of .202.
Much like Florida, Miami is coming off a strong run in its conference tournament. The Hurricanes picked up two wins against Stanford and Boston College, beating them by a combined score of 19-4.
No. 3 – Troy Trojans (39-29, 17-13 Sun Belt)
The Troy Trojans claw thier way into the NCAA Tournament as one of the last four teams in the field. The Trojans were boosted by a deep run in the Sun Belt Tournament, where they collected three wins. Troy beat Southern Miss and South Alabama twice during their deep run in the conference tournament.
Jimmy Janicki will be the player to watch for the Trojans. He won the Sun Belt Player of the Year award after posting a .350 batting average with 17 home runs and 73 RBIs.
No. 4 – Rider Broncs (33-18, 22-8 MEAC)
The Rider Broncs won the 2026 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season title for the second-straight season. They also won the MEAC Tournament title, which puts them in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2023.
