Around a week ago, big recruiting news shocked the college baseball world as the number one overall prospect in the 2026 class, Grady Emerson, flipped his commitment from the TCU Horned Frogs to the Texas Longhorns.
The journey to success is full of twists and turns, and I’m thrilled to announce my commitment to play baseball at the University of Texas. Grateful for the experiences that have shaped me, and excited for the next chapter. Ready to give it my all for the Longhorns! #HookEm pic.twitter.com/6rDO2Yd7j8

Emerson is a native of Argyle, Texas, and primarily plays shortstop. The left-handed batter has impressed scouts enough to give him the potential of a five-tool player once he starts to develop power.
Last baseball season, he led Argyle High School to a 29-8-2 overall record. The Eagles only lost two games on the road all of last season.
He is also likely to get drafted and take the professional baseball route. But for now, the Texas Longhorns have landed a huge pickup in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
The move has pushed Texas to the number one spot in the 2026 team recruiting rankings. They rank second in the 2025 team rankings behind LSU and finished sixth in the 2024 cycle among all college baseball teams in high school recruiting.
In short, head coach Jim Schlossnagle has been hitting recruiting hard. Texas is improving its future classes with additions like Emerson to compete for national championships.
