Venezuela 7, Argentina 2 – Venezuela used three separate two-run innings and five scoreless frames from starting pitcher Adrian Almeida to secure its first win. The right-hander was the winning pitcher of the contest.
Former 10-year big leaguer Hernan Perez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and second baseman Rougned Odor also collected a hit for Venezuela. Argentina’s Yaferson Lopez lasted just 1 ⅔ innings on the mound, giving up two earned runs on four hits while allowing three walks. Argentina did not score its first run of the game until the eighth, and no one in the batting order had more than one hit.
Nicaragua 5, Cuba 4 – Cuba held a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth, but Nicaragua managed to claw their way back, scoring two runs apiece in the fourth and fifth. With the contest tied at four in the ninth, Sabriel Polanco’s run-scoring knock sealed the deal for Nicaragua.
Stephen David struck out one and allowed two earned runs on four hits in 4 ⅔ innings against the Cuba lineup, but five of Nicaragua’s relievers combined to hold their opponents to just one run the rest of the way. Alay Lugo, Edgardo Fermin, Oscar Campos, and Jesus Lopez contributed eight of Nicaragua’s 11 hits.
Panama 7, Curacao 1 – Panama improved to 2-0, and Curacao fell to 0-2 following yesterday’s landslide. A five-run bottom of the seventh inning put the game on ice for Panama, and David Rodriguez led the way with three RBIs.
Dario Agrazal and Heitor Tokar combined to allow just six hits across nine innings, recording 11 strikeouts. Panama’s starter, Agrazal, tossed six scoreless frames. Jurickson Profar’s brother, first baseman Juremi, had two hits for Curacao.
