2026 Series de Las Américas: Cuba Plates 11 in One Inning; Panama Stays Unbeaten

The Serie de Las Americas tournament began last Thursday in Venezuela at Estadio Monumental Simon Bolivar in Caracas and Estadio Forum in La Guaira.

This year’s participants are the Caimanes de Barranquilla of the Liga Profesional De Béisbol Colombia, Club DAOM of the Liga Argentina de Béisbol, Leones de Leon of the Asociación Profesional de BéisbolNicaraguense, the Aguilas Metropolitanas of Panama ProBeis, Cuba’s national team, and the Willemstad Cannons of the Kampionato Beisbòl Profeshonal Kòrsou.

Below are Monday’s results from the three games played, and the remaining schedule for the tournament. The third-place game and the championship game will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Cuba 14, Curacao 12 – According to the official LVBP website, Cuba set a record for the most runs scored in a single inning in Serie de Las Americas history by plating 11 in the bottom of the sixth. They trailed Curacao 10-2 entering the frame.

Shortstop Luis Mateo went 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs scored for Cuba. Three other hitters in the lineup – Roel Santos, Yoelkis Guibert, Leonel Moas – recorded two hits each, with Santos adding two RBIs. Starter Osmer Morales allowed two earned runs through five innings for Curacao, but exited the game with six earned runs in the box score after recording just one out in the sixth.

Panama 5, Nicaragua 3 – Panama improved to a perfect 4-0 with Monday’s victory against Nicaragua. The effort was led by starting pitcher Bryan Caceres, who struck out five and allowed just one earned run on four hits in six innings.

Brainer Bonachi launched a solo home run for Panama in the bottom of the third, and Eduardo Vaughan added a two-run knock in the seventh. Nicaragua made a late comeback attempt in the eighth with Oswaldo Arcia’s two-run shot, but the comeback fell short.

Colombia 8, Argentina 0 – Colombia outfielder Tito Polo launched two homers and four RBIs as his club finished the day with four total dingers in a convincing win. Andres Angulo and Jesus Marriaga also went deep for Colombia.

Argentina’s offense was held to just four hits by four Colombian pitchers, including starter Emerson Martinez and relievers Henderson Alvarez, Pedro Garcia, and Ezequiel Zabaleta. Martinez allowed one hit and struck out three in four frames.
