Tuesday’s Results
Italy (3-0) 8, United States (3-1) 6 – Team USA nearly erased an eight-run deficit Tuesday night at Daikin Park before Aaron Judge struck out swinging to end an 8–6 loss to Italy in World Baseball Classic pool play. The win put Italy in control in Pool B and sets up a scenario where Team USA could be eliminated should Mexico beat Italy at Daikin Park tomorrow.
Israel (2-2) 6, The Netherlands (1-3) 2 – Israel defeated the Netherlands 6-2 in the finale for both teams at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, achieving a .500 record for the Jewish homeland for the first time at the WBC.
Canada (2-1) 3, Puerto Rico (3-1) 2 – Owen Caissie went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three Canada pitchers combined to allow two runs on five hits and three walks, pitching three innings each, keeping the Hosers in the hunt for first place in Pool B.
Japan (4-0) 9, Czechia (0-4) 0 – Ondrej Satoria, the electrician who struck out Shohei Ohtani despite a fastball that barely touches 80 mph, threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings in his farewell, but it wasn’t enough to get Czechia a win against the defending WBC champions.
Wednesday’s Schedule
Canada (2-1) vs. Cuba (2-1) – Livan Moinelo, possibly the best pitcher outside Major League Baseball, will start for Cuba against Canada’s Cal Quantrill. The team that wins this game advances to the quarterfinals along with Puerto Rico.
Italy (3-0) vs. Mexico (2-1) – If Italy wins this game, they win Pool B and advance to the quarterfinals with the USA. If Italy loses to Mexico, the U.S., Italy, and Mexico are all 3-1 and the run quotient tiebreaker will determine who advances.
Dominican Republic (3-0) vs. Venezuela (3-0) – In what will surely be a raucous atmosphere in Miami, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela will face off with first place in Pool D on the line. Both teams will advance to the quarterfinals, but the winner of this game will play South Korea, while the loser will have to play defending champion Japan.
