The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League, known as LIDOM, announced yesterday that the 2028 Caribbean Series would be played at Loan Depot Park in Miami, Florida, home of MLB’s Miami Marlins.
The 2024 Caribbean Series was held at Loan Depot Park and featured the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. There were also guests, including Curaçao, Nicaragua, and Panama.
The Marlins are excited to have the Caribbean Series return to Miami, a city with a rich baseball history. Marlins president of business operations Caroline O’Connor expressed this sentiment in a statement: “We are thrilled to follow on the immense success of the 2024 Caribbean Series and bring the prestigious international tournament back to Miami in 2028 in partnership with LIDOM.”
The 2024 championship game between Venezuela and the Dominican Republic drew 36,677, which was not only the largest game in attendance in Caribbean Series history but was also bigger than the final of the World Baseball Classic in 2023 between the United States and Japan, according to the MLB. This success is a testament to the growing popularity of the Caribbean Series.
The schedule over the next four years allows fans the opportunity to travel to different destinations. Mexicali, Mexico, will host in 2025, San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 2026, and Hermosillo, Mexico, in 2027. The excitement for the 2028 event is already building.
This year’s series featured players like Robinson Cano, a former MLB All-Star and World Series Champion with the New York Yankees, and Nelson Velázquez, currently in the minor leagues with the Kansas City Royals, who put up great numbers in the series.
As the excitement builds, The Carribean Series continues to be essential for the future of international baseball, providing a great atmosphere for fans to enjoy.
