4 Lessons Learned from the 2025 College Baseball Season

The LSU Tigers have won the 2025 national championship. Now that the college baseball season is in the books, World Baseball Network takes a look back at the 2025 season to point out some lessons that have been learned.

  1. Jay Johnson Shows he is the Best Coach in College Baseball

LSU head coach Jay Johnson has now won two national championships in the span of three seasons for the Tigers.

He has now won 190 games at Baton Rouge, dating back to the beginning of the 2022 season. In all four seasons under Johnson, LSU has had at least 40 total wins.

Before Johnson was at LSU, he led the Arizona Wildcats to two College World Series appearances, with a runner-up finish in 2016.

It was an impressive 2025 NCAA Tournament for LSU. Their national championship came at the hands of a 10-1 record in NCAA Tournament play.

They finished the tournament on an eight-game winning streak. This dates back to their Baton Rouge regional championship win over Little Rock on June 2.

The most recent national championship for LSU made Johnson the fastest coach to win two national championships at one school. He has done so in four years.

  1. Coastal Carolina’s Run in Omaha Shows they are an Elite Program

Despite losing in the national championship series, Coastal Carolina showed they are an elite program within the college baseball landscape.

This appearance in the national championship was the second time the Chanticleers made it that far in the NCAA Tournament in a decade. Coastal Carolina won the 2016 national championship.

This was just the first year under head coach Kevin Schnall. The Chanticleers instilled a winning way that can last for years to come. In 2026, Coastal Carolina will look to make the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season.

  1. Roch Cholowsky is Going to be One of the Biggest Names to Watch in 2026

UCLA star Roch Cholowsky will be a huge name to watch for the 2026 college baseball season.

He has a career batting average of .333, 31 home runs, and 107 RBI in two full seasons. He helped lead the Bruins to the College World Series in what was a bounce back year for head coach John Savage in Los Angeles.

Cholowsky may end up being the best player in the country in 2026. The UCLA star could play himself into being a top five pick in the 2026 MLB draft.

  1. Texas’ Seamless Transition into the SEC Means the Future is Bright

The first season in the SEC for the Texas Longhorns was a massive success. The team finished 22-8 in conference play and were the 2025 SEC regular season champions.

Despite a disappointing result in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, Texas showed they are ready to win now in college baseball’s best conference.

The Longhorns will be a national contender and threat to win national championships for many seasons to come under head coach Jim Schlossnagle.
