2024 Baseball European Federation Cup – Day 5 Recap

The 2024 Baseball European Federation Cup will be played from June 3-8 at the Zürich Heerenschürli Baseball Stadium in Zurich, Switzerland. 

All of the 2024 Baseball European Federation Cup games will be at the Zürich Heerenschürli Baseball Stadium.

The Round Robin of the BEFC was played from June 3-7. The BEFC championship game will be on June 8 at 6 a.m. EST. 

The Zurich Barracudas from the Switzerland Baseball and Softball Federation, the Hoboken Pioneers from the Belgium Division I operated by the Koninklijke Belgische Base en Softball Federatie, the London Mets from the Britain Baseball Federation National League, the Mariners from the Irish Baseball League operated from Baseball Ireland and the Rättviks BSK from Elitserien and operated by the Swedish Baseball and Softball Federation are all participating at the 2024 Baseball European Federation Cup.

June 7, 2024 

(4-0) Hoboken Pioneers (BEL) 13, (1-3) Mariners (IRL) 2  F/8 

The Hoboken Pioneers won 13-2 to the Mariners in eight innings via the mercy rule to remain undefeated at the 2024 BEFC in Group Switzerland. 

Hoboken Pioneers starting pitcher Ruben Van Landuyt threw five innings, allowed three hits, two earned runs, three walks, and four strikeouts. Pioneers relief pitchers Sam Van Nuffel and Brendan Verspreet threw three innings and allowed one hit, one walk, and two strikeouts. 

Mariners starting pitcher Patrick Mitchell and relief pitchers Daniel John Woodburne, and Jamie Cuevas threw eight innings, allowing 14 hits, 13 earned runs, four walks, and one strikeout. 

Pioneers right fielder Xander Verspreet launched a two-run home run over the left field wall in the top of the eighth inning on Friday, scoring second baseman Dennis De Quint. Xander Verspreet finished the day with three hits, five RBI, and two runs scored in his four at-bats. 

Pioneers left fielder Benjamin Goffaux smacked four hits, three RBI, and scored three runs in his five at-bats on Friday. 

Pioneers second baseman Wesley Janssens in his three at-bats had two hits, two RBI, one walk, and scored two runs. 

Pioneers center fielder Luis Unda in his five at-bats rocked two hits, and scored two runs. 

Mariners two-way player Trajan Finarelli had an RBI single on Friday in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring catcher Patrick Marley Kelley for their second run and third baseman Daniel Joseph Sweatland had an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning, scoring infielder Fion Gallahar-Hall. 

The Pioneers will play in the championship game on Saturday at 8 a.m. EST at Zürich Heerenschürli Baseball Stadium against the Rattviks BSK. 

The Rattviks BSK lost to the Hoboken Pioneers 16-3 on June 6 by seven inning mercy rule. 

(1-3) Zurich Barracudas (SUI) 7,  (1-3) London Mets (GBR) 8 

During both team’s final game at the 2024 BEFC in Group Switzerland, the London Mets beat the Zurich Barracudas 8-7. 

The London Mets pitching staff with starting pitcher Thomas Flaherty, relief pitchers Rich Minford and Chris Messer threw nine innings, allowing 10 hits, seven earned runs, six walks, and 14 strikeouts. 

The Zurich Barracudas defense committed six errors on Friday. 

The Zurich Barracudas pitching staff with starting pitcher with Cee-Jay Eduard Savoldelli, relief pitchers Fynn Principato Himmelsbach, Benjamin Montag, and Alexander Addison Bruce threw eight innings, allowing nine hits, two earned runs, three walks, and four strikeouts during Friday’s loss. 

Bruce was in the lineup as the designated hitter before coming into pitch. 

London Mets third baseman Jamie Dix in his four at-bats smacked two hits, two RBI, and scored two runs. 

London Mets outfielder Geremias Jesus Valencia Dominguez led the ballclub with three hits on Friday in his four at-bats, had one RBI, one walk, one strikeout, and scored one run. 

London Mets shortstop Jordan Edmonds in his four at-bats smacked two hits, one RBI, and scored one run. 

Barracudas shortstop Fabio Nico Bundi during his two at-bats, had one hit, two RBI, and three walks. 

Bruce in his five at-bats had two hits, and three RBI’s. 

Barracudas center fielder Kyle Graves had three hits, one RBI, one strikeout, and scored four runs in his four at-bats. 

The Zurich Barracudas are 4-2 in the 2024 Championnat de Suisse de Baseball regular season. 

The Zurich Barracudas will play the Zurich Challengers on June 15 at 12 p.m. EST. 

The London Mets are 6-3 in the 2024 British Baseball Federation National League regular season. They will play their archrival, the London Capitals, on June 23 at 7 a.m. EST.
