ACC Teams Preview: 2024 NCAA College World Series

The 2024 NCAA Division I College World Series will start on June 14 and will go until June 24 if game three of the National Championship Series is played at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.  

All of the eight participating teams at the 2024 NCAA Division I College World Series will be the University of Tennessee, the University of North Carolina, Florida State University, the University of Florida, the University of Kentucky, Texas A&M University, the University of Virginia, and North Carolina State University.   

Florida State University is ranked No.8 in the nation; North Carolina is ranked No. 4; Tennessee is ranked No. 1; Kentucky is ranked No. 2; Virginia is ranked No. 12; and Texas A&M is ranked No. 3 and North Carolina State is ranked No. 10.

Florida is the only program in the 2024 College World Series that are not in the Top 25 rankings.  

This is the first time in the history of the NCAA Division I CWS that two conferences will split the field, with four programs each from the SEC and ACC and eight teams from the Power Five.    

The 2024 NCAA Division I College World Series will be televised on ESPN family networks.

FSU Notes:  

  • Florida State has finished as a runner-up three times in the College World Series but has never won it all.
  • The Florida State Seminoles offense pounded 34 runs against UCONN during the Super Regionals last weekend. 
  • Florida State is ranked No. 9 in the country, with the program’s batting average in the 2024 season at .316.
  • Florida State outfielder James Tibbs III is tied for second in the nation with 94 RBI with Austin Peay outfielder Lyle Miller-Green. 
  • Tibbs III was also named 2024 ACC Player of the Year and led the conference with 28 home runs. 
  • Seminoles sophomore starting pitcher Jamie Arnold is third in the nation in strikeouts, at 155, and is tied for fifth in wins, with an 11-3 record. 
  • FSU infielder Cam Smith leads the country in hits with 102.

UNC Notes:  

  • UNC has never won the College World Series but has finished as runner-up twice in 2006 and 2007.
  • Forbes was named coach of the year in the ACC for 2024. 
  • The UNC offense is 11th in the country in runs scored, with 532 in 61 games. 
  • Tarheels junior outfielder Vance Honeycutt won the ACC’s Defensive Player of The Year Award and had 178 chances, 170 putouts, five assists, three errors, and a .983 fielding percentage. 
  • Honeycutt is also third in the country, scoring44 runs per game.
  • UNC right-handed pitcher Matthew Matthijs is tied for third in the country with Grambling University right-handed pitcher Mason Martinez in wins, with his record at 12-4.

  • The Virginia offense is fourth in the nation, scoring4 runs per game.
