Day 1 Recap of the European Softball Masters Cup

Men’s Division:

Spain’s Club Deportivo Arga (ESP) had a shut out win against Dridma Rivas Softbol Club in a 9-0 game. 6 different players earned RBIs throughout the game with the stand out moment coming from Marc Carriollo who homered deep to left field for 3RBIs.

SC United Prague (CZE) defeated Dridma Rivas Softbol Club (ESP) in a 7-0 game in a six inning game. While SC United’s team hit well, defensively Jaroslav Breník was United’s leading man, as he struck out 16 players across his 6.0 IP.

SC United Prague (CZE) took home another win for the day as they had a 2-6 victory against the Royal Grey Grizzlies (BEL). After scoring early in the first inning, Jan Strádal extended their lead thanks to a 2RBI home run to deep left field.

Tempo Praha (CZE) faced the Denmark Old Stars (DEN) and ended in a tied score. Tempo had 3 hits for the game and the Old Stars had 2 however neither team were able to convert their hits to runs. Both teams pitching staff had a fantastic day with the Old Stars earning a combined 15 SO across 6 IP, and Tempo Praha earning 9 SO across the 6 IP.

In their second game of the day Tempo Praha (CZE) lost 2-7 to Roma Baseball & Softball Club (ITA). After a 4 run first inning, Roma set an early lead and maintained their lead throughout the remainder of the game. Two RBI doubles were supported by a first inning 2RBI homer from Ivan Cechet and later extended by another 3 runs to end the game.

In the final game of the day Roma Baseball & Softball (ITA) defeated Hercules de Hospitalet (ESP) in a tight 3-1 game. With both teams remaining scoreless until the final inning it was an evenly matched battle till the end. RBIs from Ivan Cechet and Roberto Manente ultimately won the game for Roma and ended Day 1.

Women’s Division:

The day started in a tie as the Classic Ladies (DEN) faced the Golden Flames (AUT). The Ladies held their lead until the final inning after scoring their first 4 runs on an error, fielders choice, wild pitch and RBI. The Flames levelled the score after a 2RBI double from Manuela Ollendorf in the third and RBIs from Andrea Mossmüller and Manuela Ollendorf in the bottom of the final inning.

The second game also was left in a stand still as Club Deportivo Arga (ESP) tied against SK Joudrs Praha (CZE) in an 8 inning game. The Spanish side had RBIs from Constanza Busso Gómez, Uxua Zoroza and Natalia Rodriguez García to give them a 3-0 lead. However, a 2RBI single from Petra Pravečková and an additional run on an error left the game in a tie.

Cechie Carrots (CZE) had the first win of the day over the Dutch Old Stars (NED). A 2RBI single from Šárka Klímová started things off and was later supported by a 2RBI triple from Jitka Horová, sac fly from Klara Hibbert and RBI single from Lucie Boxanova to win the game 6-2.

The Suisse Team (SUI) had a 2-9 loss against Czech side SK Joudrs Praha (CZE). 5 players from Joudrs Praha had RBIs for the day with the best hit coming from Magdalena Loudová who tripled to centrefield for 2RBIs.

In a close game the Belgian Red Warriors (BEL) just beat the Classic Bats Deutschland (GER) in the final inning. After scoring early and consistently the Red Warriors cemented their win in a dramatic way with an RBI and winning run on a wild pitch. The Warriors won 8-7.

In the first game for the Italian side Le Zie (ITA), they had a convincing win against the Suisse Team (SUI) in a 1-7 game. A big third inning brought in 5 runs for the Italians thanks to RBIs from Jie Hua, Francesca Rossini, and Maria Papucci. Le Zie finalised their win with another 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth after RBIs from Marta Batolozzi and Samanta Valsania.

The Belgian Red Warriors (BEL) had another win, this time against Team Sweden (SWE) in a 9-2 five inning game. The game was evenly contested until the final inning that brought 6 runs across the plate for the Warriors. RBIs from Sybill Pauckstadt, Patty Roig Kaschl, Cindy Joosens and Aurélie Berger gave the Belgian team their win.

Later in the day Le Zie (ITA) took on Club Deportivo Arga (ESP) in another close game. Le Zie struck in the second inning scoring on an error and RBI from Samanta Valsania. Both teams maintained strong defensive pressure with those being the only two runs of the game resulting in a 0-2 win for Le Zie.

Villa Vintage (ESP) delivered the biggest win of the day after defeating Team Sweden (SWE) 17-2 in a three inning game. Scoring 6, 6 and 5 runs across the three innings they dominated with the bats with the biggest hits coming from Erika Esquinas Capitan (RBI triple) and Danah Garcia Gines (2RBI triple).

In the final game of the day Villa Vintage (ESP) had a close game against the Classic Bats Deutschland (GER) in a 12-13 game. The Classic Bats had a big first inning scoring 8 runs off 6 different players RBIs. A late comeback from Villa Vintage as they scored 9 runs, with 4 of them coming from errors threatened the large lead the Classic Bats formed. However, it wasn’t enough and Villa Vintage lost by one run in the top of the fourth.
