George Springer is having arguably his best Major League Baseball season in 2025. He has a .309 batting average, a .399 on-base percentage, 32 home runs, and 84 RBI.
The four-time All-Star is looking for his second World Series championship this season as the Toronto Blue Jays face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
However, before playing Major League Baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros, Springer was a star in college with the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies.
Springer stepped onto the college baseball scene in a big way. In 2009, Baseball America named him a freshman All-American. He was also the Big East Freshman of the Year that same season.
The 36-year-old eventually became the Big East Player of the Year in the 2011 season. He was also named a first-team All-American by Perfect Game and the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Springer became the highest-drafted UConn player when the Houston Astros took him 11th overall in the 2011 MLB Draft.
The Huskies felt the impact of Springer during his college career. They made it to the NCAA Tournament with him on the team two times in 2010 and 2011.
In 2011, UConn made it to a super regional and played the South Carolina Gamecocks, who went on to win the 2011 national championship.
The Huskies also won the 2011 Big East regular season championship with Springer.
Game one of the 2025 World Series will be on Friday, October 24. The first pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. EDT. at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
The game can be watched on FOX.
