A Look at Mississippi State’s Tyler Pitzer in the 2025 Cape Cod League

There are not many pitchers in the Cape Cod League who have been as good as Tyler Pitzer.   

This season with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, he has a 3-0 record and a 0.34 ERA in 26 1/3 innings of work. He also has a WHIP of 0.91 and 36 strikeouts over that same stretch. 

This led to Pitzer being named a Cape Cod League All-Star. He was also named the league’s pitcher of the week on June 29 for the week of June 21-17.  

Pitzer’s Career with the South Carolina Gamecocks, Mississippi State Transfer Decision – Pitzer spent the first two seasons of his college career with the South Carolina Gamecocks.  

Over the course of his career in Columbia, he made 38 appearances and pitched 72 innings. During that time, he had a 5.63 ERA that included a record of 8-1.  

Pitzer also had 89 strikeouts in his South Carolina career compared to just 49 walks.  

After his second season with the Gamecocks, Pitzer announced on his X account that he would be transferring on June 1.  

Then, on June 21, Pitzer announced on his X account that he would be heading to Starkville to play for the Mississippi State Bulldogs for his third college baseball season in 2026.  

The right-hander is a part of Mississippi State’s number one ranked transfer portal class according to 64Analytics.  

The former South Carolina reliever will also be featured as a part of a new era of Mississippi State baseball. The Bulldogs have a new head coach in for next season in Brian O’Connor.   

O’Connor has spent the last 22 seasons at Virginia. There, he led the Cavaliers to seven College World Series appearances and was a five-time ACC Coach of the Year.
