A Look at Shane Bieber During his College Career at UC Santa Barbara

Shane Bieber will start on the mound for the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 4 of the 2025 World Series.  

This postseason, he has a 4.38 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings of work.  

Bieber also has a postseason win credited to his name in 2025. This win was when the Blue Jays defeated the Seattle Mariners 13-4 in game three of the American League Championship Series (ALCS).  

Before playing in the 2025 World Series and Major League Baseball, Bieber had a dazzling career with the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in college.  

Bieber and UC Santa Barbara 

Bieber played for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos from 2014 through 2016. In three seasons, he had a 2.74 ERA and 238 strikeouts in 305 total innings of work.  

He is fifth all-time in school history for career ERA and second all-time in school history for career strikeouts. Bieber is also third all-time in school history for career wins with 23.   

The Gauchos went to the NCAA Tournament in 2015, which was Bieber’s second season with the team. The right-hander was also named second-team All-Big West that season. 

Bieber pitched eight complete games during his college career. Five of those complete games came during the 2016 college baseball season.  

During Bieber’s big 2016 season, he was first-team All-Big West and a Rawlings All-American.  

That same season, UC Santa Barbara went to the College World Series in Omaha for the first time in program history.  

In the 2016 MLB Draft, Bieber was selected in the fourth round by the Cleveland Indians with the 122nd overall pick.
