The Southern Miss Golden Eagles have an 11-1 overall record this season. They are the 10th-best team in the country, according to D1 Baseball’s top 25 rankings.
World Baseball Network takes a look at Southern Miss’s great start to the 2026 season.
11-Game Win Streak, Wins Over Two SEC Opponents
The only loss this season for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles came on opening day, February 13. They were stymied by the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, who defeated them 5-1 at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg.
The Golden Eagles have responded to that loss with 11-straight wins. They have defeated two Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponents over that stretch.
On February 24, they defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide 14-4 in a midweek matchup. The game ended after eight innings by way of a run rule.
The Golden Eagles also defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs 7-6 on Tuesday, March 3.
These SEC wins matter in the long run of a college baseball season. These wins are big resume builders that could help Southern Miss make the case to host a regional in Hattiesburg during the NCAA Tournament.
2026 Round Rock Classic Champions
During the 11-game win streak, Southern Miss also took home the 2026 Round Rock Classic championship.
At Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas, the Golden Eagles won three games against Purdue, Oregon State, and Baylor. Southern Miss outscored those three opponents 19-9.
Up next for Southern Miss
After their most recent win over Mississippi State, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles will play the Nicholls Colonels in a midweek matchup on March 4.
The game is at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, and the first pitch is at 7 p.m. EST.
