A Look at the Richmond Spiders’ Hot Start to the 2025 Season

 Alfred Ezman - World Baseball Network  |    Mar 2nd, 2025 4:30pm EST

On Sunday, the Richmond Spiders got their second win in a row against the Toledo Rockets as they defeated them 5-1. This wrapped up a 2-1 weekend for the Spiders in the Central Virginia Challenge at Pitt Field.

Head coach Mik Aoki’s team also got a win over Boston College over the weekend.

As far as mid-majors go, very few are off to the start that Richmond has been on. The team now has a 9-2 record heading into the first full week of March. This is the best overall record in the Atlantic-10 conference (A-10).

Players to Watch

Phil Bernstein, OF – Phil Bernstein has been the best hitter in the A-10 so far this season. He is batting .486 and has six RBI this season. His on-base percentage has been phenomenal, sitting up at .596.

Jack Arcamone, C – The Richmond catcher is putting together some power at the plate with three home runs this season. His hitting numbers overall have been solid too as he is batting .394.

Ryan Bilka, RHP – The Wagner transfer has been a big addition for the Spiders’ bullpen. He has two wins credited to him in the 15 2/3 innings he has pitched in. He has given up just five hits and one walk over that same stretch. This has resulted in a 0.45 ERA.

Upset Win Over N.C. State

Richmond took down the N.C. State Wolfpack during a mid-week game back on Feb. 25 in Raleigh, N.C. They held one of the best ACC teams to just one run that came in the first inning.

Bernstein had three hits for the Spiders. Jordan Jaffe hit a big three-run home run for the Spiders that made it a 4-1 game. Arcamone homered in the seventh inning following up Jaffe’s long ball and that sealed the deal resulting in a 5-1 win.

Up Next

Richmond has yet to lose a weekend series or mid-week game this season. Their next game will be on Tuesday, Mar. 4, against the Towson Tigers at Pitt Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. EST.
