Kyle Gibson has decided to call it a career after 13 Major League seasons after opting out of his contract the Tampa Bay Rays last month.

Gibson announced his retirement on The Serving It Up Show on Thursday afternoon. He started the season in the Baltimore Orioles minor league system and rose back to the Major Leagues, making four starts for Baltimore, throwing 12 1/3 innings with a 16.78 ERA before being designated for assignment on May 18 and then getting released two days later.

On May 28, he signed a minor league contract with the Rays, who assigned him to Triple-A Durham. He made four starts for Durham, throwing 17 1/3 innings with a 0.52 ERA before being released on June 18.

During his MLB career, Gibson was a durable and reliable starter, if not spectacular, making one All-Star appearance in 2021 and compiling 14.6 bWAR to go along with a 112-111 record, a 4.60 ERA over 1,878 innings, and 1,520 strikeouts, playing for the Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, and St. Louis Cardinals.
