Today, the Abilene Christian Wildcats begin a week-long trip to the Dominican Republic.

Over six days, they will take on different tasks that involve community service to orphanages and the general children population within the country.

Abilene Christian head coach Rick McCarty shared his thoughts on the week that is to come.

“This mission trip aligns perfectly with our program and ACU’s mission to foster Christian service and leadership throughout the world…It provides an unparalleled opportunity for each member of our program to grow personally and spiritually while making a meaningful impact in the communities we visit. I do not doubt that this will be the signature piece of our student-athletes experience at ACU.”

SCORE International is assisting the trip by partnering with the ACU baseball program. According to their website, SCORE is a Christian organization that organizes mission trips like the one the Abeline Christian baseball team is going on.

SCORE International started out being centered around sports as the founder, Ron Bishop, was a former college basketball coach at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga.

During the week, the Wildcats will also have exhibition outings to help them prepare for the 2025 season. On Wednesday and Thursday, they will face off against MLB affiliates in the country. This is just another example of how college baseball is expanding its boundaries and showcasing the game on a global scale.

It also gives McCarty a chance to look at his team, which is coming off a good 2024 season. They went 33-24 overall and 18-12 in WAC play.
