No. 16 California 12, No. 9 Miami 2 (8 Innings) – Alex Birge clubbed two homers as the Cal Golden Bears opened the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. with a 12-2 win against Miami.
Starter Oliver de la Torre went six innings for the Golden Bears, allowing two hits and striking out seven for Cal, and Ethan Foley pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out four.
Daniel Cuvet went 2-for-3 for Miami with a double and a run scored.
Cal will face Wake Forest at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the second round.
No. 12 Virginia Tech 7, No. 13 Stanford 4 – Distributed offense pushed Virginia Tech past Stanford Tuesday afternoon, with the Hokies getting two hits each from the first three in the batting order.
Ben Watson, Clay Grady, and Sam Tackett each had two hits, with Watson and Tackett each scoring a run and Grady driving in two for Virginia Tech. Starter Jake Marciano allowed two runs on on four hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking none.
Jimmy Nati and Trevor Haskins each homered for Stanford, which falls to 27-25 with the loss.
Virginia Tech will face fifth-seeded Clemson on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the second round.
No. 15 Pitt 13, No. 11 Louisville 11 – Two runs in the top of the ninth gave Pitt a first round win over Louisville after the Cardinals tied the game with five runs in the bottom of the eighth.
An eighth-inning RBI single from Bayram Hot got the rally going for Louisville, and then Tagger Tyson hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Tague Davis to draw the Cardinals within three. Eddie King Jr. drew a bases loaded walk that scored Matt Klein, and then Pike hit a two-run single to center to tie the game.
But Pitt answered in the top of the ninth, getting a two-run homer from Luke Cantwell, and Firoved finished off the Cardinals in order in the bottom of the ninth to earn the win.
Pittsburgh scored 13 runs despite knocking just seven base hits in the game.
Lorenzo Carrier and Jayden Melendez each homered for the Panthers, who will face No. 7 seed Duke at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
No. 14 Boston College 5, No. 11 Notre Dame 4 – Patrick Roche’s 10th inning RBI single gave Boston College a 5-4 win over Notre Dame on Tuesday.
The Eagles got out to a 3-1 lead in the second on a three-run homer from Kyle Wolff, and added another in the third when Gunnar Johnson’s squeeze bunt scored Josiah Ragsdale.
Boston College will face No. 6 seed Virginia at 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
