Starting Pitcher Yunesky Maya took the mound for Águilas Cibaeñas, looking for his second win of the season. Leones De Escogido would call upon Cristopher Molina to take the mound on the road in Santiago in his second start, pitching along with having eyes on his first win. First place Águilas has had a big surge during the LIDOM season entering the 2022-2023 campaign with a 19-7 record. General Manager Angel Ovalles has put some critical pieces toward manager Jose Leger’s coaching staff. Jose Leger managed at the Double-A level this past season for the St. Louis Cardinals organization down in Springfield for his second year managing with the ball club. Leger has previously managed with the New York Mets organization at the Dominican Summer League level, Rookie level, and Single-A level from 2010-2017. Last place Leones De Escogido is coming off a rough start to begin the season, firing manager Pedro Lopez just a few days before the slate of this week’s games. Felipe Rojas Jr. has been announced as the interim manager for the rest of the season.

Maya would have complete control pitching around the Escogido lineup as he pitched fiving innings, with four hits allowed, six strikeouts, and one walk during his start. Aguilas’s first run would come off of second basemen Yairo Munoz as he drove in the first run of the ball game in the fourth inning, allowing LF Orlando Calixte to score on a single to center field. Molina would be pulled right after for Leones, just going four innings pitched, two hits giving up, with one earned run allowed, four strikeouts, and two walks during his second start. Aguilas would call on Francis Martes out of the bullpen to pitch two innings for the ball club. Martes would allow one hit, with one strikeout, and walk one batter during his appearance. The bullpen for Aguilas would be lights out the rest of the way, silencing the Escogido offense. During the bottom of the eighth inning, RF Jerar Encarnacion stepped to the plate looking to put more insurance runs on the board for Aguilas as he drove a ground ball single that snuck in between shortstop and third base, scoring CF Cade Gotta and DH Eguy Rosario to take a 3-0 lead. Relief pitcher Neftali Feliz would enter the ninth inning looking to shut the door for Aguilas as he got Esteban Florial to strike out swinging to end the game for a 3-0 victory. Aguilas would extend their record to 20-7 for the season. Escogido would fall in the standings making their record 7-18. Maya would receive the win out of his start going 2-0 and recording a 1.05 earned run average for the season. Molina received the loss and would go 2-2 for the season with a 3.21 earned run average.
