Águilas Metropolitanas announced its roster for the Serie de las Américas, to be held Feb. 5–13 in Venezuela. The club, champions of Panama’s PROBEIS during the 2024–25 season, will represent the league after the 2025–26 campaign was canceled due to renovations at Estadio Rod Carew.
One of the hitters to watch is infielder Brainer Bonaci. The Venezuelan, a former Boston Red Sox prospect, was one of the breakout players in the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional this season with Leones del Caracas. He hit .316/.420/.513 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs. Bonaci later joined Águilas del Zulia for the round robin, batting .295/.389/.426 with two home runs and eight RBIs in 16 games.
David Rodríguez is another key bat for Águilas. He posted a .790 OPS with Tigres de Aragua in the LVBP and provides the roster with a hitter who has a proven track record of production.
On the mound, Gilberto Chu is one of the arms to follow. The former minor leaguer has spent the past two seasons in the Frontier League. He went 4-1 with a 2.09 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 43 innings for Québec in 2025. Chu also pitched in Panama’s Campeonato Nacional de Béisbol Mayor, where he recorded a 1.08 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 25 innings. He is capable of starting or relieving and is expected to be one of the team’s most impactful pitchers.
Former major leaguer Darío Agrazal is another arm to watch. He pitched briefly for Leones del Escogido and allowed just one run in six innings over three appearances, striking out six. He could emerge as Águilas Metropolitanas’ top pitcher during the tournament.
