North Carolina got a 10-0 run-rule win over the Boston College Eagles on Sunday to earn a series win. The victory came on the back of a great start from Aidan Haugh, who pitched the entire seven innings of the game.
In his seven innings of work, Haugh threw 11 strikeouts while giving up just one hit and one walk. He threw 96 total pitches.
The only hit he gave up was to Boston College first baseman Nick Wang in the seventh inning on the last play of the game. That is how close Haugh was to putting together a no-hitter for the Tar Heels.
This was the sixth start of the season for Haugh. He has pitched deep into most of his starts, going at least five innings in every start dating back to Feb. 24 against East Carolina.
He has made three starts in ACC play against Boston College, Louisville, and Stanford. He has totaled 22 strikeouts across all three of those appearances.
Heading into Sunday’s game, Haugh had a 2.45 ERA this season. He had held opposing batting lineups to a .156 batting average. He now holds a 1.93 ERA, a 0.896 WHIP, 43 strikeouts and a 3-2 record in 32 2/3 innings of work this season.
In short, he has been a staple in the North Carolina rotation and one of the most durable Sunday starters in the country.
