Alabama Crimson Tide Assert Themselves in Jacksonville

The Alabama Crimson Tide travelled to Jacksonville, Fla. for the Jax College Baseball Classic this past weekend.

During the three games they played in 121 Financial Ballpark, they went 3-0 defeating Coastal Carolina, N.C. State, and Ohio State.

Pitching was the story in the first game against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Zane Adams got the start for the Tide and threw six strikeouts which matched a career-high of his.

Alabama scored nine runs on just three hits. The lineup was able to force 12 walks versus Coastal Carolina and this led to plenty of opportunities for runs. Thus, the Crimson Tide cruised to a 9-2 win.

On Saturday, Alabama had a matchup against a good N.C. State team. Pitching once again played a major factor with Riley Quick starting this time. He went four innings and struck out four N.C. State hitters. He gave up just one hit and allowed no earned runs.

The Alabama bullpen followed up Quick’s start and gave up a combined two hits over the final five innings.

Brennen Norton homered for the Tide. Will Plattner and Richie Bonomolo Jr. also tacked on RBI hits of their own.

In the end, Alabama ended up shutting out the Wolfpack, who were a College World Series team from a season ago. The final score was 4-0.

In order to complete the weekend sweep, the Crimson Tide needed to defeat the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The game did not go well for head coach Rob Vaughn’s squad early on. Heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Alabama was behind 10-0.

However, a three-run home run by shortstop Justin Lebron kicked things into gear, and Alabama’s offense rolled into action.

Lebron hit another three-run home run again in the game after Bonomolo Jr. had an RBI knock. This brought the Tide within three and it made it a 10-7 game in favor of Ohio State.

Kade Snell doubled down the line in the eighth inning to bring the Crimson Tide within a run.

This set up first baseman Will Hodo, who launched a walk-off homerun to complete a three-win weekend for Alabama as they beat the Buckeyes 12-10.

This set of games in Jacksonville keeps Alabama undefeated this season with an 8-0 record.

This put the Crimson Tide on the map as a team to watch in college baseball. They looked better and better as the weekend went on.

So much so, that they may have had the best weekend of any team.

Alabama looks to remain unbeaten and get nine wins on the season on Tuesday, Feb. 25. They will take on Jacksonville State back at home in Tuscaloosa at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST.
