Alabama State right-handed pitcher Caio Araujo will pitch for Brazil in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Araujo is a graduate-year player from Indaiatuba, Brazil, who was in the midst of playing his third season for the Hornets in Montgomery.
He becomes the first player in Alabama State’s history to play in the World Baseball Classic.
Araujo and his Alabama State Career
In two seasons with Alabama State, Araujo has a career ERA of 2.63 and 43 career strikeouts in 41 total innings of work. He also has allowed a career opposing batting average of .226.
The bulk of Araujo’s pitching with the Hornets came during the 2024 season, where he pitched a total of 39 innings.
He only threw two total innings in 2025 because of a medical redshirt he received.
Before his two seasons with Alabama State, Araujo played at John Wood Community College in Quincy, Ill.
