Mexico City – Guerreros de Oaxaca second baseman Alexi Amarista was one of several veteran international stars named to the LMB All-Star Team this summer, participating in the 2025 Liga Mexicana de Beisbol All-Star Game held June 28 at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú in Mexico City. The Venezuelan infielder took a moment during All-Star Weekend to speak with World Baseball Network’s Matt Tallarini about what the recognition meant to him and how he’s preparing for the second half of the season.

“It was a beautiful recognition,” Amarista said. “It was a great season for me personally, and a great season for the Guerreros as a team. We made it to the final last year. We couldn’t win it all, but I think that season earned me this honor.”

The 2024 Guerreros de Oaxaca squad finished as one of the most competitive in the Zona Sur, and Amarista was a key contributor both defensively and at the plate. His selection to the 2025 LMB All-Star Team was one of several international nods during a centennial weekend packed with tributes to the past and excitement for the league’s future.

Amarista’s participation came as part of World Baseball Network’s ongoing on-site coverage of LMB’s 100th anniversary celebration, which marked Chief Correspondent Matt Tallarini’s 100th international event covered in Mexico. From the gala presentations to the Home Run Derby to the first-ever Futures Game, Amarista’s presence was just one thread in a much larger tapestry woven at Harp Helú.

Exclusive Interview Excerpts – In Spanish and English

In a two-part conversation filmed inside Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, Amarista emphasized how honored he felt to be recognized, while also turning his focus toward what’s next:

PART 1 – Recognition and 2024 Reflections

“Mira, feliz, de verdad, por este hermoso reconocimiento, por una temporada muy, muy, muy buena para mí en lo personal, muy buena para el equipo, los Guerreros de Oaxaca, que estuvimos en una final el año pasado. No se pudo lograr el objetivo, pero contento. Y creo que gracias a esa temporada pasada, pues, pude ganar este hermoso reconocimiento.”

English Translation:
“I’m honestly really happy for this beautiful recognition. It was a very, very good season for me personally, and also for the team, the Guerreros de Oaxaca. We made it to the final last year. We couldn’t reach our goal, but I’m still proud. I think thanks to that season, I earned this honor.”

PART 2 – Looking Ahead to the Second Half

“Preparándome, eh, tratando de enfocarme, de hacer ajustes para la segunda mitad a lo personal. Sé que no tuvimos un récord muy bueno a los últimos siete partidos, pero ya va a venir la segunda mitad donde tenemos que hacer ajustes, donde tenemos que tratar de hacer las pequeñas cosas del juego para ganar. Y dar lo mejor de mí, seguir haciendo el trabajo, seguir aportando ese granito de arena para ayudar al equipo.”

English Translation:
“Getting prepared, trying to stay focused, making adjustments for the second half personally. I know we didn’t have a great record in the last seven games, but now comes the second half where we have to make adjustments and focus on the little things that help us win. I’m going to give my best, keep doing the work, and keep contributing to help the team.”

LMB’s Centennial Weekend Adds Meaning to Player Spotlights

Amarista’s moment came amid a week that saw Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú transform into the center of Mexican baseball. From the Futures Game on June 26 to a historic 10-inning All-Star Game format that matched the LMB’s top international players against the Mexico national team, the atmosphere was both electric and reflective.

As part of the All-Star Team, Amarista joined fellow veterans like Robinson Cano, Didi Gregorius, and Francisco Mejía in representing the diversity and global appeal of today’s Liga Mexicana de Beisbol. Each inning of the All-Star Game paid tribute to a different decade of LMB history, with pregame festivities honoring the league’s All-Century Team.

Matt Tallarini’s interviews and video coverage throughout the week also captured major moments from the Home Run Derby, scouting showcases, and gala tributes honoring the league’s legacy. Those conversations—including his sit-down with Amarista—underscore what makes the LMB All-Star Weekend more than just a midseason break.

It’s a chance for players like Amarista to be recognized for their past while recommitting to the path ahead.
