Ramirez, 35, has 14 years of MLB experience with seven different teams, most recently having made nine appearances in 2025 with the Minnesota Twins, throwing 11 innings in relief with a 2.45 ERA. He made one start for Nicaragua during the 2026 World Baseball Classic, throwing five innings and allowing one run on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts in a 4-3 heartbreaking loss to the Netherlands. The Rivas, Nicaragua-native has a career ERA of 4.34 with an ERA+ of 92 and an FIP of 4.59 in 860 innings of work from 2012-25 with Seattle, Tampa Bay, Boston, Detroit, Washington, Minnesota, and the New York Mets.
With Union Laguna, Ramirez made three starts, throwing 12 innings with nine strikeouts and two walks, allowing 12 runs on 17 hits with an 8.25 ERA and a 1.583 WHIP.
2026 World Baseball Classic: A Q&A With Nicaragua Starter and MLB Vet Erasmo Ramirez
The Rockies, who are 14-22 and tied for fourth place in the National League West, have a team ERA of 4.59, the sixth-worst in Major League Baseball, and currently have five pitchers – Mason Albright, Jarrod Cande, Brayan Castillo, Braxton Hyde, and Adam Laskey – who are on either the 60-day Injured List or out for the season.
A righty, Ramirez doesn’t have overpowering stuff, with a fastball that reaches the low 90s, relying mainly on his cutter, sinker, changeup, and occasionally mixing in a curveball and four-seamer. He threw 11 innings over nine relief appearances with Minnesota last year, posting a 2.45 ERA with five strikeouts.
