Amed Rosario Traded Back To Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are reunited with a familiar face as they have traded for Amed Rosario of the Tampa Bay Rays. This is the second straight year the Dodgers have traded for Rosario at the deadline, acquiring him from Cleveland last year. The return to Tampa is RHP Michael Flynn, and the Rays have now traded away their seventh player in the last few days.

Rosario, the 28-year-old from Santo Domingo Centro, Dominican Republic, joins the Dodgers at the deadline for the second year in a row. Rosario struggled mightily last season in Cleveland, only hitting a .675 OPS. He was traded to Los Angeles for Noah Syndergaard in a big leaguer swap, and he improved in his tenure in Dodger blue. Whatever foundation he set last year in LA, he rolled over to this year with the Rays.

He has a slash line of .307/.331/.417/.748 so far this season, being one of the lone bright spots on a struggling Rays offense. He is enjoying his best overall season since 2019 with the Mets. He brings speed and defensive versatility to the table, stealing nine bags this season while playing second base, third base, shortstop, and right field.

He will provide quality infield depth for the Dodgers, who are missing Miguel Rojas, Mookie Betts, and Max Muncy due to injury. He is on a very cheap deal with a salary of only $500,030, and his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Rays sole compensation is right-handed reliever Michael Flynn. Flynn is 27 years old and has pitched in Double-A and Triple-A this season for the Dodgers organization. Flynn was drafted in the sixth round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018 out of the University of Arizona. Since then, he has bounced around the minor leagues. He signed with the Dodgers in Dec. 2023 and has had his best MLB season to date. The Rays have made a reputation for developing unknown arms, so that will be their goal with Flynn.
