The Chicago White Sox haven’t scored since last week.
Needing to boost their offense amid a 20-inning scoreless streak, the White Sox have called up Sam Antonacci, their fifth round pick in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft, in hopes that the lefty infielder can provide some pop to the lineup.
Antonacci, 23, started the season at Triple-A Charlotte, where he’s gone 13-for-41 in the first 12 games of the season with two homers and six RBIs, drawing two walks on Saturday after entering the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh and remaining in the game at third base in a 6-4 loss to Memphis. He appeared in six games for Italy at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, going 2-for-19 with a triple, a homer, and three RBIs.
He played 116 games across three levels of the minors in 2025, batting .291/.433/.409 with five homers and 57 RBIs, playing 64 games at High-A Winston-Salem and 49 games at Double-A Birmingham.
Capable of playing second base, short, and third, it remains to be seen where Antonacci will be used defensively, though he’s been primarily a third baseman in the professional ranks. Third baseman Munetaka Murakami has gone 1-for-20 in his last seven games, drawing six walks and striking out nine times in that span. Second baseman Tanner Murray is 1-for-11 in his first four MLB games with Chicago, while shortstop Colson Montgomery is 3-for-23 with a walk and eight strikeouts.
The White Sox haven’t scored a run since the seventh inning of Thursday’s 2-0 win in the series opener at Kansas City.
