The South American Baseball Championship Tournament ended today with the usual matchup of Argentina and Brazil. For the sixth time in the last nine tournaments, Argentina would win it all.
Argentina faced off against Brazil in the finals for the fourth straight tournament. In a close game, Argentina would walk it off in the bottom of the 7th inning to win 2-1.
Brazil’s Murilo Brolo was untouchable for six innings, allowing one hit and walking four, while striking out 6 batters. On the other side, Lucas Ramon Aramayo threw 5.1 brilliant innings for Argentina. He allowed one unearned run on three hits and struck out five batters.
It would all come down to the final inning as Brazil was one out away from repeating as champions. With a runner on second and two outs, Heitor Vinicius would walk the next two batters. Jacinto Cipriota would hit a walk-off two run single to prevent Brazil from repeating as champions
Argentina completed the undefeated season on the back of great pitching and hitting. The team would rely on a tournament OBP of .366 and used timely hitting to put games out of reach, but it would be their pitching that dominated. In 41 innings, Argentina would only allow five runs and would end the tournament with an ERA of .85.
