Arizona State Sun Devils head coach Willie Bloomquist received a contract extension that will last through the 2028 season, according to Baseball America.
Bloomquist and his Playing and Coaching Career with Arizona State
Before embarking on a Major League Baseball career that spanned from 2002 to 2015, Bloomquist played college baseball at Arizona State.
In 1999, he was the Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year and a Baseball America All-American.
After retiring from his playing career, Bloomquist became the coach of the Sun Devils in 2021. He has 126 total wins while coaching his alma mater for four full seasons.
Arizona State Makes the NCAA Tournament for the First Time in Three Years
The 2025 college baseball season was his best one as the head coach of Arizona State to date. The Sun Devils had a 36-24 overall record and a 18-10 record in Big 12 play.
For their first time under Bloomquist’s leadership, Arizona State made the NCAA Tournament and played in the Los Angeles regional. They won their first game of the regional against the UC Irvine Anteaters before the UCLA Bruins beat them shortly after, which ended their season.
The Sun Devils’ 2025 NCAA Tournament appearance ended a three-season postseason drought. That was the longest postseason drought for Arizona State in its program’s history.
Arizona State’s 36-24 record was the best record they had in a season since 2019.
