Arizona State’s Cole Carlon is One of College Baseball’s Best Southpaws

Arizona State left-handed pitcher Cole Carlon broke out in a big way during the 2025 season.  

He had a 3.33 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 54 innings of work. Carlon also picked up four saves for the Sun Devils in games against Cincinnati, UC Irvine in the NCAA Tournament, and twice against Texas Tech.  

The Arizona State southpaw’s best game came on April 6 against the Sun Devils’ top rival, the Arizona Wildcats. 

In that game, Carlon had a season-high in innings and strikeouts. He had 10 strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of work. He also allowed no hits and no earned runs during that stretch.  

All-Big 12 in 2025 and 2026 MLB Draft Stock 

The great sophomore season that Carlon put together led to him earning many individual accolades.  

He was a first-team All-Big 12 reliever 

According to MLB Pipeline, Carlon is the 39th-best 2026 MLB Draft prospect. He is the second-highest ranked collegiate left-hander behind Arkansas’ Hunter Dietz, who is ranked 38th.  

Carlon and his Great Summer in the Cape Cod League 

Over the summer, Carlon played for the Cotuit Kettleers in the 2025 Cape Cod League.  

In 6 1/3 innings, he had a 1.42 ERA and eight strikeouts. He allowed just three hits and one earned run while pitching for Cotuit.  

Up Next for the Arizona State Sun Devils 

Carlon and Arizona State will begin the 2026 college baseball season with a three-game weekend series against the Omaha Mavericks from February 13-15. 

Those games will be at the Sun Devils’ home ballpark, Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
