Arkansas Shortstop Wehiwa Aloy Wins 2025 Golden Spikes Award

OMAHA, Neb. – Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy won the 2025 Golden Spikes Award, presented annually by USA Baseball to the nation’s top amateur baseball player.

The announcement was made live on ESPN during the pregame show for game one of the Men’s College World Series finals late Saturday afternoon. The other finalists were Florida State shortstop Alex Lodise, and Tennessee starting pitcher Liam Doyle.

Aloy is the third player from Arkansas to win the award, joining Andrew Benintendi, who won in 2015, and Kevin Kopps, the 2021 Golden Spikes Award Winner. The No. 22 prospect for the upcoming Major League Baseball draft according to MLB Pipeline, Aloy was the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and led the Razorbacks to the 2025 Men’s College World Series, batting .350/.454/.673 with a 1.107 OPS, 21 homers and 68 RBIs.

Aloy went 5-for-13 at the College World Series, scoring three runs for Arkansas, which was eliminated by LSU in a chaotic bottom-of-the-ninth rally in a 6-5 loss on June 18. His best game of the 2025 College World Series came in a 7-3 win against UCLA on June 17, where he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a triple, and a home run.

Lodise was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year after leading Florida State to a 42-16 record and a berth in the NCAA tournament, batting .394/.462/.705 with a 1.167 OPS, 17 homers, and 68 RBIs. A junior, Lodise also won the 2025 Dick Howser Trophy, awarded annually to the best college baseball player as voted on by the members of the National College Baseball Writers Association. He was the third Seminole to claim that trophy, which is named after late Florida State head coach and New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals manager Dick Howser, joining J.D. Drew in 1997 and Buster Posey in 2008. He is the 45th-ranked prospect for the 2025 MLB Draft according to MLB Pipeline.

Doyle had a dominant season on the mound. The Boston native posted a 3.20 ERA in 95 2/3 innings of work, striking out 164 batters while walking just 32 and was named SEC Pitcher of the Year.
