Around the Caribbean: Estrellas 5-1 In LIDOM Round Robin With 10-Inning Win

A 5-4, 10-inning win over the Gigantes del Cibao kept the Estrellas Orientales atop the standings in the LIDOM round robin playoffs.

The win puts the Estrellas, now 5-1, one game ahead of the Tigres del Licey, who are 4-2.

Raimel Tapia’s RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning that sent Angelo Castellano home with the winning run. Fernando Tatis Jr. went 1-for-2 with two walks and two stolen bases for the Estrellas, and starter Paolo Espino scattered six hits, a run, and a walk over 5.1 innings of work, striking out five. Major League veteran Neftali Feliz came on to pitch the 10th inning for the Estrellas and earned the win.

Tigres del Licey 9, Leones del Escogido 3 – Miguel Andujar went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI in the Tigres’ 9-3 win over the Leones del Escogido Wednesday night.

Emilio Bonifacio contributed a solo home run in the first inning for Licey and added a two-run triple in the top of the fifth, and seven relievers combined to allow the Leones just five hits and one run over the final 7.1 innings.

The Tigres del Licey face the Gigantes del Cibao at 6 p.m. EST on Thursday, while the Estrellas Orientales face the Leones del Escogido at 6:15 p.m. EST. All LIDOM games are streamed on MLB.tv with a paid subscription.

Caguas Evens LBPRC Series With Santurce – A two-run homer by Edwin Rios in the bottom of the fourth inning was all the offense that the Criollos de Caguas needed to get past the Cangrejeros de Santurce in game two of their LBPRC playoff series on Wednesday night.

Veteran Daryl Thompson, who joined Santurce as a reinforcement after pitching for Mayaguez during the regular season, went seven innings, allowing no walks and three hits including the Rios home run and striking out five, taking the loss.

Leones de Ponce 3, Gigantes de Carolina 1 – Carlos Cortes drove in a run with a sac fly, and Calvin Estrada followed him with three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning as Ponce held on to defeat Carolina and even their playoff series.

Both LBPRC semifinal series resume Thursday at 6 p.m. All LBPRC games are streamed live on the league’s facebook page.

Torrens’ Torrid Night At Plate Gives Tiburones 2-0 Series Lead – Luis Torrens went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, and three RBI as the Tiburones de la Guaira stomped the Cardenales de Lara 8-3 to improve to 2-0 in the LVBP round robin.

Danry Vasquez contributed a solo homer in the second for the Tiburones. Torrens’ two-run homer in the fourth gave La Guaira a 4-0 lead, and his double in the sixth sent Angel Reyes home with another insurance run.

Bravos de Margarita 5, Tigres de Aragua 2 – Edgar Duran had a two-run homer in the bottom of the second and hit a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth that scored Leobaldo Cabrera to lead the Bravos de Margarita past the Tigres de Aragua in the LVBP round robin.

Veteran workhorse Felix Doubront allowed five hits and two runs in five innings of work for Margarita to earn the win.

The Cardenales de Lara will face the Tigres de Aragua, while the Leones del Caracas face the Bravos de Margarita on Thursday in the LVBP round robin. Both games start at 6 p.m. EST and all LVBP games are streamed live on Beisbolplay.com with a paid subscription.
