At Last, Clemson’s Cam Cannarella Signs with the Miami Marlins

On Monday, former Clemson center fielder Cam Cannarella signed a $2.27 million deal to join the Miami Marlins organization. Cannarella was selected 43rd overall in the competitive balance round after the Marlins selected Oregon State’s Aiva Arquette with the seventh overall pick.

After MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis reported the signing, it officially meant that Miami signed all 21 players it drafted.

Cannarella’s Career With the Clemson Tigers

The Clemson outfielder impressed the minute he stepped onto the field at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

During his freshman season in 2023, he posted a .388 batting average and a .462 on-base percentage. He also displayed his speed as a prospect with 24 stolen bases that season.

Following the conclusion of the 2023 college baseball season, D1Baseball, Baseball America and Perfect Game all named Cannarella a first-team Freshman All-American.

In his sophomore season, Cannarella improved his power. He hit 11 home runs in 2024, a career high during his three seasons at Clemson. He also recorded a career high in RBIs that year with 60.

The accolades continued, as Cannarella was named a second-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and was a third-team All-ACC selection.

In 2025, Cannarella wrapped up his college career with the Tigers. He posted a career-high on-base percentage of .479 and also recorded a .357 batting average. He drew more walks than strikeouts, with 52 walks and 42 strikeouts.

This past season, Perfect Game and the NCBWA named him a third-team All-American. He also earned second-team All-ACC honors.

The Tigers made the NCAA Tournament all three seasons Cannarella was on the team. They were the ACC Tournament champions in 2023 and the ACC regular-season champions in 2024.

A Look at Cannarella’s Defense

Cannarella’s defense is also a significant part of his game. His career fielding percentage during his three seasons at Clemson was .984. He committed only six errors in his entire college career, including just one error in 145 total chances during his freshman season.
