Athletics No. 19 Prospect Will Johnston Promoted to Triple-A

The Athletics are promoting their No. 19 overall prospect Will Johnston to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Johnston was drafted in the 13th round of the 2023 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Texas A&M University. The left-handed pitcher reached Double-A last season and started the year there. He had a 3.94 ERA in 20 games, including six starts.

On May 13, he was moved to the bullpen, and he has thrived in that role. He has given up just two earned runs since the move. He started just eight games in his college career, so he may be more comfortable in the bullpen.

As a reliever, he has a 1.06 ERA in 14 games. He has also converted on all four of his save opportunities. The southpaw has notched 22 strikeouts in 17 innings of work coming out of the bullpen, earning himself a promotion.
