On Tuesday, March 17, the Auburn Tigers won a top-five matchup against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 9-2.
Great pitching was on display for the Tigers as it has been throughout the 2026 college baseball season.
Starting pitcher Andreas Alvarez had 10 strikeouts and allowed just two hits to Georgia Tech over five innings of work.
The Yellow Jackets’ potent lineup could only muster three hits against Auburn pitching during the entire game.
After his performance on Tuesday, Alvarez has a 1.09 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 24 ⅔ innings this season. He is second on Auburn’s team in ERA.
A look at the Tigers’ Pitching in 2026
As of March 17, Auburn had the second-best team ERA in college baseball at 2.33. The only team with a better ERA is the USC Trojans. The Tigers are also in the top 10 in the country in strikeouts per nine innings at 11.9.
Jake Marciano headlines the best current pitching team in the Southeastern Conference. The southpaw has a 0.93 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 29 innings this season.
Marciano has become a legitimately tough Friday night starter. His last two starts against Winthrop and Missouri resulted in shutout wins for the Tigers.
Another big performer in the Auburn pitching staff this season, along with Alvarez and Marciano, is Alex Petrovic. He has a 2.03 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 26 ⅔ innings of work.
Petrovic is coming off a lights-out performance at Missouri, where he had 8 strikeouts and allowed one run over the course of 7 ⅔ innings.
Jackson Sanders has also been a lethal arm for Auburn. The left-hander has a 2.76 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 29 ⅓ innings of work for the Tigers.
In his last two starts against Winthrop and Auburn, the sophomore struck out 18 hitters.
Up next for Auburn
After their win over Georgia Tech, the Auburn Tigers have an 18-2 record this season. They are ranked fifth in the country according to D1 Baseball’s most recent top 25 rankings.
The Tigers host the number two team in the country, the Texas Longhorns, in a weekend series at Plainsman Park.
The first game of that series is on Friday, March 20, and the first pitch is at 7 p.m. EST.
