Ballpark Review: Yankee Stadium Concessions

The chicken bucket, which contains chicken tenders and french fries at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, is one of the most popular food items at Yankees games. Its tremendous size easily feeds at least two people.

Despite the popularity of chicken buckets, Yankee Stadium has dozens of other concession options, some introduced to the ballpark at the beginning of the 2024 season. The possibilities are endless, from a wide range of cheeseburgers, meatballs, and cheesy garlic bread to slow-smoked chicken wings.

Below is an honest review of five concession items I ate at Yankee Stadium during the 2024 MLB season. Seeing that stadium food is so expensive these days, I would not recommend trying all five items on the same day.

  1. Mac and Cheese (Mac Truck, Section 223)

The wait time for the mac and cheese from the Mac Truck is typically long, but it’s worth it. The macaroni comes in a cardboard cup with breadcrumbs and creamy cheddar cheese sauce. It may not be the best mac and cheese you’ll ever eat, but it’s a good option for fans who want to avoid red meat.

Other options at the Mac Truck include Bacon Ranch Mac and Cheese and Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese for people who want spice. Overall, the mac and cheese is creamy, but adding the toppings adds flavor and protein to a good portion of a popular children’s dish.

  1. M’s Spicy Chicken Wings (Streetbird by Marcus Samuelsson, Section 112)

The chicken wings are served with brown sugar babe sauce and a side of ranch and are meaty enough that you won’t finish eating them in one bite. They had great flavor but were not spicy at all.

The best part of these wings was the texture. Despite enjoying them on a cold rainy day, the skin stayed crispy, and the chicken stayed hot. If these wings were as spicy as advertised, I would recommend them in a heartbeat. However, the order comes with six meaty wings, perfect for a fan who is not hungry enough for a complete meal.

  1. BBQ Filet Tip Loaded Tater Tots (Lobel’s, Section 134)

The tater tots are crispy and crunchy, but the meat is typically cooked tough. On top are fried onion strings and cheddar cheese, which should be allowed to melt more. I highly recommend eating this dish with a fork, which can get messy.

The best part about the loaded tater tots from Lobel’s is the au jus from the filet, which keeps them hot and helps the meat stay warm throughout the meal. Served in a paper bowl, the BBQ Filet Tip Loaded Tater Tots have a hefty amount of tots and a generous serving size of filet.

  1. Bacon Crunchburger (Bobby’s Burgers, Section 132)

Famous chef Bobby Flay created the menu at Bobby’s Burgers, which offers five different options, including a veggie burger.

If you are not a vegetarian, Bobby’s Burgers’ best sandwich is the Bacon Crunch burger, which features bacon, American cheese, a “thin layer of potato chips,” and Bobby’s Sauce. You can taste the quality of the meat with each bite, but the amount of potato chips is excessive. Bobby’s sauce has a nice kick and is perfect to add on top of the burger. If you’re looking for a higher quality burger than the typical food stands at Yankee Stadium, Bobby’s Burgers is the place for you.

  1. Rice Bowl (Mighty Quinn’s, Section 132)

The rice bowl from Mighty Quinn’s is like Chipotle on steroids. It includes white rice, pickles, coleslaw, burnt ends, pulled pork, or smoked brisket.

The smoked brisket is the best of the three protein options. The tenderness of the brisket mixes well with the crunchiness of the pickles and coleslaw, and the flavors balance perfectly. Ordering a rice bowl at a baseball game may not sound typical, but it’ll fill your stomach for more than just an inning or two like a hot dog does.

Overall

Yankee Stadium offers delicious concession items, but the food can be expensive. These five concession items are worth a try if you have a few extra bucks to spend on a unique meal in The Bronx during a Yankees game.
