Barcelona Baseball Cup: Day Three Recap

Catalunya defeated the Spain All-Star Team 10-6, while the Algodoneros de Guasave beat the Cocodrilos de Matanzas 8-0 at the Barcelona Baseball Cup. 

Catalunya and the Cocodrilos de Matanzas played in the highest-scoring game of the Barcelona Baseball Cup so far. Catalunya had seven different players collect an RBI in the game. Third baseman Wander Encarnacion and Roibert Decena each had two RBIs. Every starter for Catalunya recorded a hit as well. Edison Valerio went 3-for-4 at the plate. He now has five hits in his three games. 

The Spain All-Star Team performed well offensively in their first game. However, starting pitcher Ruben Hernandez gave up six earned runs and two walks in just 2 2/3 innings of work. Okaury Montero led the way for the offense with two team-leading hits. He had the only extra-base hit, a double in the ninth inning. 

Pitching was the story of the Algodoneros de Guasave’s win over the Cocodrilos de Matanzas. Seven pitchers combined to hold the Cocodrilos de Matanzas to five hits and no runs. Jorge Perez started the game and went three innings and striking out four. Offensively, Yael Romero, Alan López, and José Villa each had two hits. López and Romero each had two RBIs as well. 

Currently, Catalunya and the Algodoneros de Guasave are both 2-1. Cocodrilos de Matanzas and the Spain All-Star Team are 0-1.
