Barcelona Cup Day 4 Recap: Cocodrilos de Matanzas Win Their First Game 

The Cocodrilos de Matanzas won their first game of the Barcelona Baseball Cup on a day where they played two. They lost their second game against Catalunya. The Algodoneros de Guasave picked up their second shutout victory.

The Cocodrilos de Matanzas took on All-Star Spain in their first game of the day. A quality start from Danny Betancourt led the way as he struck out five in six innings of work. Offensively, Yordan Manduley went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. His two RBIs came in the 6th inning to put the Cocodrilos up by four runs. They won the game 5-2.

In their second game of the day, Matanzas lost 9-3 to Catalunya. Manduley picked up another two hits but was not enough to lead the offense past Catalunya. Roibert Decena hit Catalunya’s first home run of the tournament in the fifth inning of the game.

The Algodoneros de Guasave won their second consecutive game, beating All-Star Spain 4-0. The Algodoneros de Guasave pitching staff struck out 16 in the win. Elmer López led the team with two hits.

The standings now have Catalunya at 3-0, the Algodoneros de Guasave at 2-1, the Crocodiles de Matanzas at 1-2 and All-Star Spain at 0-3. Catalunya los an opening exhibition to the Algodoneros de Guasave that is not reflected in the standings.
