The Barranquilla Caimanes Olimpica defeated Monteria Vaqueros in seven games to claim the Colombia Professional Baseball League (LPB) 2024-25. It’s their 14th league title, the fourth under manager José Mosquera, who led Colombia to a WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup bronze medal in 2021.

The rubber match had a thrilling ending. Barranquilla took an early lead 6-0 against Jake Eisenbarger and added a run in the fourth. Led by the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup star Brayan Buelvas, the Vaqueros started a comeback attempt that took them within one run. In the top of the ninth, Hansel Paulino allowed a two-out walk, representing the potential tying run. He then closed the game retiring Daniel Vellojín on a fly to centre field.

The Vaqueros, who had lost the 2023-24 final against the Caimanes, entered the final series as the favourites after defeating Barranquilla twice in the semifinal round-robin. They also took a 3-1 lead in the series but couldn’t add a fourth success.

The Results

Vaqueros-Caimanes 5-3
Vaqueros-Caimanes 8-0
Caimanes-Vaqueros 10-6
Vaqueros-Caimanes 3-2
Caimanes-Vaqueros 10-9

LPB is a five-team winter league with a 40-game regular season. All the participants are based in the Caribbean region of Colombia. Cartagena Tigres, Barranquilla Leones, and Sincelejo Toros also participated in the 2024-25 edition.
