The 2024 Baseball European Champions Cup (BECC) continued on Wednesday, July 18. The teams representing Germany swept the day.
Hedienhiem Heidekoepfe (Germany) 9 Eagles Praha (Czech Republic) 0
Hedienhiem Heidekoepfe third baseman Drew Janssen opened up the scoring against Eagles Praha with a groundout to the shortstop, scoring one. Catcher Daniel Varvusa added to the scoring in the first with a double to left field. The two first-inning runs were all the offense needed for Hedienhiem Heidekoepfe.
The Eagles Praha offense never got going in this game. Collecting just two hits against opposing pitching, Eagles Praha fell behind early and could not catch up.
Hedienhiem Heidekoepfe got two outstanding pitching performances from Jared Mortensen and Dalton Von Schamann. Mortensen allowed two hits in his five innings and struck out nine. Von Schamann entered in the sixth inning, did not surrender a base runner, and dished out six Ks.
Janssen went four for six, including three RBIs for Hedienhiem Heidekoepfe to lead the offensive charge. He continued his solid play with a .438 average throughout the tournament.
Hedienhiem Heidekoepfe is 3-1, and Eagles Praha are 0-4 in the Baseball European Champions Cup.
Guggenberger Legionare (Germany) 7 Draci Brno (Czech Republic) 1
Guggenberger Legionare scored first with two runs in the first inning by Nino Sacasa reaching on a throwing error. Devon Ramirez Beaver hit a sacrifice fly to drive in another. Alexander Schmidt continued the scoring for Legionare with a solo home run in the second inning.
In the fourth, Draci Brno got on the board with an RBI single from catcher Javier Alejandro Lucena. Draci Brno would only collect four more hits as Legionare pitching was lights out. Kieran Lovegrove allowed the lone run in seven innings, including eight strikeouts for Legionnaire.
Daniel Patrice added to the Legionare lead with a grand slam in the seventh inning to add a cushion to the lead.
Legionare is also 3-1, while Draci Brno fell to 2-2.
