Baseball European Federation Cup Qualifiers Sweden Day 2 Recap

The games for the second day of the Baseball European Federation Cup Qualifiers in Sweden took place on June 12 at Skarpnack Baseballpark.  

London Capitals (Great Britain) 10, Kanus County (Lithuania) 9

The London Capitals walked it off in the ninth with a two-run single from left fielder Cameron Lee to win it 10-9.

The London Capitals were down 9-7 entering the inning and were facing a 0-2 record in the Baseball European Federation Cup Qualifiers. Kanus County reliever Audrius Beliauskas pitched two scoreless innings, but he could get one out in the ninth and took the loss.

Third baseman and pitcher Julio Cesear Figuereo Almonte hit a sacrifice fly for the first run in the ninth to cut the deficit to 9-8. Figuereo Almonte also picked up the win, pitching the final two innings. He allowed one run and struck out two batters.

London Capitals right fielder Jeurys Lewin Felpipe Mambru hit the game’s only home run in the sixth. His two-run shot against starting pitcher Norvydas Kukauskas cut the deficit to 7-5. Kukauskas gave up seven runs in 6.1 innings for Kanus County.

Kanus County center fielder Martynas Sadzevicius led them with three RBI and went 2-for-3 with a double. Kanus County lost and dropped to 0-2, and the London Capitals are 1-1.

Kutno (Poland) 12, Tempere Tigers 2 (7 innings)

The game between Kutno and the Tempere Tigers was tied 1-1 until Kunto broke open for four runs in the third.

Shortstop Arthur Wojiczak hit an RBI triple for the first run of the third, and second baseman Radoslaw Zajda hit a two-run double to bring in the third and fourth run of the frame. Starting pitcher Ergo Rohl gave up five runs and four earned in three innings.

Wojiczak was 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Zajda was 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Starting pitcher Radoslaw Jozwiak pitched a complete game with seven innings, two runs allowed, and seven strikeouts. Kutno finished off the Tempere Tigers in seven innings due to the 10-run rule.

Kunto had 12 hits, with eight of their nine batters recording at least one hit. Third baseman Wojciech Zagawa and first baseman Yauheni Kurhun each had two RBI. Kutno is 2-0 and the Tempere Tigers 0-1.

Schedule: Thursday, June 13 

The London Capitals (Great Britain) 1-1 will play Kutno (Poland) 2-0 at 6:00 a.m ET.

The Tampere Tigers (Finland) 0-1 will play Stockholm Baseboll 1-0 at noon.
